Minneapolis Public Seating Authority
Minneapolis Public Seating Authority is a project started in early 2024 to bring attention to the lack of public seating and other amenities downtown Minneapolis.
Benches made of salvaged materials and engraved with welcoming messages were placed into the commons for all to use. The benches also have QR codes cut into them that leads to a website for the project and allows and encourages others to advocated their elected leaders for policy change regarding seating downtown.
Additionally, the benches contained tracking devices so their movements could be mapped over time, and to assist in location and recovery of the benches
The project is a good example of how craft can be used in a subversive invasion of public space that is welcoming to all and encouraging of others to advocate for positive change.
